Kansas City's Ross Named NFL Europa Player Of Week

April 17, 2007 - National Football League Europa (NFLE) News Release

Kansas City Chiefs-allocated running back DERRICK ROSS has been named NFL Europa Offensive Player of Week 1 following his standout performance in the Cologne Centurions' 24-18 victory over the Hamburg Sea Devils.

Ross rushed for 120 yards on 29 carries and scored on a 16-yard touchdown run. He also added three receptions for 25 yards.

Centurions head coach DAVID DUGGAN paid tribute to his running back, stating: "Derrick Ross had a great effort in Hamburg and he really ran the football well."

Ross, who was given an added workload when rushing partner Antwaun Carter was injured in the second quarter, said: "I was getting real tired. But sometimes you have to carry the load in football games and I thought I did okay."

Frankfurt Galaxy safety RON ROCKETT was named Defensive Player of the Week after helping his team to a 30-14 win over the Amsterdam Admirals. Rockett led the Galaxy defense with 8 tackles and 2 passes defensed. His third quarter interception of Amsterdam quarterback Drew Olson set up a Galaxy field goal.

Berlin Thunder kicker ANDREW JACAS was named Special Teams Player of the Week after he made league history by becoming the first man to kick a pair of four-point field goals in the same game.

Jacas converted kicks covering 53 and 50 yards and added a conversion in a nine-point performance during the Thunder's 15-3 defeat of the Rhein Fire.

"I knew coming into this season that I might have a chance to kick one or two 50-yard field goals," Jacas said. "I had been kicking well in practice so I came in prepared. It was a great win, a team win and a very good start for me."

Thunder head coach JOHN ALLEN added: "Andrew is unbelievably strong - he has a very strong leg. He can actually kick it a little further than that and we knew going in we were going to give him a chance. We knew he could kick and he has some good confidence now. He did a great job and really helped us in the special teams game. As long as he continues to stay consistent and focused, he will really help us."

English wide receiver SCOTT MCCREADY was named National Player of Week 1 after he caught a team-high seven passes for 100 yards for the Hamburg Sea Devils. McCready, who ranks second on the all-time receiving charts with 189 receptions for 2,179 yards, scored on a career-long 55-yard reception against the Cologne Centurions.

Sea Devils head coach VINCE MARTINO said: "Scott is an amazing player. He is always our go-to receiver because he is so knowledgeable and he has speed. He is still the big play guy everybody is going to look to defend when they play Hamburg."
