Kai Selected as WPS Player of the Week

SOMERSET, N.J. (July 21, 2009) - With Sky Blue FC in the midst of its most successful run of the season, striker Natasha Kai earned an accolade with a selection as the WPS Player of the Week for Week 17. Kai has spurred the New Jersey club to a four-game unbeaten streak and the fourth-place position in the WPS standings.

This past Wednesday, the Kahuku, Hawaii native connected twice, in the fifth and 86th minutes, as Sky Blue FC posted a 4-4 draw with the visiting Washington Freedom. Coupled with a 1-0 victory over the Chicago Red Stars on Sunday, Sky Blue FC moved to 6-6-4 and reached the .500 mark for the first time this season.

For the season, Kai has five goals to lead Sky Blue FC in scoring including three goals in the past three games. That total places Kai at number four on the WPS Goals list.

Kai is the first Sky Blue FC player honored as Player of the Week. This makes Kai an automatic nomination for the July WPS Player of the Month Award.

WPS's Player of the Week award is selected by a panel of writers with the North American Soccer Reporters.

Sky Blue FC takes to the road this week for matches against Saint Louis (Wednesday) and Boston (Saturday) before returning home for its final home game of the season on Wednesday, August 5 at 7 p.m. against FC Gold Pride at Yurcak Field. (888-SBFC-TIX | www.SkyBlueStore.com)
