JT Giles-Harris 2020 MLL Draft Prospect

February 13, 2020 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) News Release

Boston, MA - Heading into his Senior season, standout defenseman, JT Giles-Harris, is looking to continue to turn heads in his pursuit of finishing his collegiate career as a school-record holder. With an already impressive resume, Giles-Harris looks to add to it by surpassing Luke Duprey's current record of 88 career caused turnovers. To do so, Giles-Harris would need 32 caused turnovers this season, as he currently stands at 57.

Some of his other impressive accolades, just from the 2019 season, include being the reigning ACC Defensive Player of the Year, being named as a candidate for the Tewaaraton Award in 2019, a first-team All American, ranking third in caused turnovers, seventh nationally in scoring defense (9.61 goals per game) and holding down the 5th spot for Duke's single-season record for takeaways (26). These, and his other notable achievements, definitely place him into the elite grouping of prospects for the MLL draft.

Speculation, come draft day, might see Giles-Harris find a home on the Lizards or the Blaze. In 2019 the Lizards had Jack Carrigan and Ben Randall carry the defense, and might be interested in solidifying the unit with one of the top defenders coming out of the NCAA. The Blaze had their best season on record. They saw Liam Byrnes named the 2019 Defender of the Year. And while Byrnes was nearly an impenetrable force, the Blaze could benefit from a deeper defensive bench.

Giles-Harris and the Blue Devils had a tough start to their season, falling to unranked Air Force Academy (coached by Outlaws' John Grant Jr.), but rebounded with a big win against ranked High Point last week. This weekend they face another top 25 opponent, the Denver Pioneers. Here is a look at the remainder of their 2020 schedule against top 25 teams:

Date Away Home Location Time ET

15-Feb DUKE DENVER DENVER, C.O. 2PM

7-Mar DUKE LOYOLA BALTIMORE, M.D. 1PM

14-Mar DUKE TOWSON TOWSON, M.D. TBA

4-Apr DUKE NOTRE DAME SOUTH BEND, I.N. 2PM

9-Apr DUKE VIRGINIA CHARLOTTESVILLE, V.A. 7pm

22-Feb PENN DUKE DURHAM, N.C. TBA

22-Mar SYRACUSE DUKE DURHAM, N.C. 12pm

26-Mar NORTH CAROLINA DUKE DURHAM, N.C. 12pm

With six underclassmen on Defense, Duke will need Giles-Haris to continue his consistent success as a strong veteran when facing these tough teams.

Should JT Giles-Harris follow in the footsteps of his brother, Joe Giles-Harris (LB for the Jacksonville Jaguars), and take his athletic prowess to the professional level, which team do you think would be a good fit for JT? Let us know on Twitter @MLL_Lacrosse
