Jr. Swarm Team to Make Debut

July 26, 2013 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Minnesota Swarm News Release

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The Jr. Swarm Team, a bantam box lacrosse team comprised of 18 boys, will compete in their inaugural tournament this weekend at the Veterans Memorial Community Center in Inver Grove Heights.

The Jr. Swarm Team was established last month, and is currently the only elite traveling box lacrosse team in the state. Swarm assistant coach Aime Caines and the Swarm's all-time leading goal scorer Ryan Benesch are the team's coaches.

This weekend, the Jr. Swarm Team will compete against a team who will be making a six-hour drive down to the Twin Cities from Thunder Bay, Ontario.

"We're really looking forward to showcasing the talent of our team this weekend," Caines said. "Playing an international game for our first true box game is very exciting, and great for the state of Minnesota and the Swarm. I'd encourage Swarm fans to join us this weekend and support our local youth as they begin their season."

Following this weekend's competition against the Thunder Bay team, the Jr. Swarm Team will travel to California next week for a USBOXLA Nationals Tournament from Aug. 2-4. The team will also compete in the Jr. Mammoth Invitational in Denver and a NLL Jr. Tournament in Toronto, Ontario later in August.

"We have the unique opportunity to travel the country as well as compete in Canada this summer, which offers our kids the chance to really grow as players and individuals," Caines said. "It will be an honor to represent the Swarm and the state of Minnesota during these tournaments and we're excited to build new friendships in the process."
