Jostling for Playoff Positions Continues

The battle for the final two playoff spots in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League continues to be hotly contested with seven weeks remaining in the regular season.While the Orlando Seals and Knoxville Ice Bears remain in first and second place with 54 and 41 points respectively, only eight points separate the third place Winston-Salem Parrots (33) from the sixth place Jacksonville Barracudas (25).

Savannah Games:

The Atlantic Coast Hockey League officially announced on January 23rd, that it will stage two regular season games at the Savannah Civic Center in Savannah, Georgia. The two league games are considered "test" games by the ACHL to guage the interest in placing an ACHL franchise in Savannah in time for the 2003-2004 ACHL season. The two games are:

Friday, February 21st @ 7:30PM: Macon Trax vs. Winston-Salem Parrots

and

Saturday, February 22nd @ 7:30PM: Cape Fear Fire Antz vs. Winston-Salem

ACHL Player of the Week:

Darcy Johnson of the Orlando Seals is the Atlantic Coast Hockey League Player of the week. Johnson, from Sturgis, Saskatchewan, scored three goals, including a game winning goal, as the Seals went 2-0 on the week.

ACHL Goaltender of the Week:

Co-Goaltenders of the week go to David Goverde & Mike Correia of the Orlando Seals. The Seals posted back-to-back shutouts last week; 4-0 against Knoxville on 1/23 and another 4-0 whitewash against Jacksonville on 1/25. For Goverde, from Toronto, Ontario, it was his third shutout of the year, while Correia, a Tewksbury, Massachusetts native, posted his first shutout of the year.
