Joliet Rolls Past Flyers

SCHAUMBURG, IL- The Schaumburg Flyers were defeated 9-3 on Tuesday night by the Joliet JackHammers at Alexian Field. The Flyers saw their second-half record fall to 2-9 on Tuesday while their overall record fell to 21-33. Joliet's mark rises to 6-5, 29-28.

Joliet C Rick Wilkins started the scoring in the first inning, when he knocked a two-run double. LF Rob Fischer added an RBI single, which gave the JackHammers an early 3-0 in the first inning. DH Matt Nokes (2-for-3, Two Runs Scored) extended the visitors lead with a double in the second inning to make the score 4-0. RF Tony Chance (3-for-5) provided a heavy blow to Schaumburg in the third inning with a two-run homer off of Flyers RHP Matt Wagner (1-3). The home run hit the scoreboard in left field and gave Joliet an 8-1 lead after three innings. Northern League All-Star LHP Brian Mazone earned the win (8-3), going six innings and striking out nine batters.

The Flyers managed a fourth-inning RBI single by SS Ashanti McDonald (3-for-3) which brought home LF Rodney Clifton. A seventh-inning sacrifice fly by 3B Jeremy Smith closed the Schaumburg scoring column for the night. Prior to Tuesday's game, the Flyers released veteran 1B-DH Wes Chamberlain.

The Flyers resume action on Thursday night, starting a three-game series with the Sioux City Explorers in Iowa (7:05 PM/Radio: WONC 89.1 FM). Schaumburg's starting pitcher on Thursday will be righthander Hank Woodman (2-3, 2.93).
