JOHNSON ANNOUNCED IBL MOST VALUABLE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Baltimore- The International Basketball League is pleased to announce that, St. Louis Swarm Guard Danny Johnson has been named the 2000-2001 Most Valuable Player of the Year. After returning for his second season with the Swarm, the 1999-2000 IBL Rookie of the Year, ranked first on his team and fourth among the leagues scorers with a team high average of 21.2 points per game. Johnson started 46 out of 48 games. He was one of only two players in the league to score over 1,000 points, totaling a team-high of 1,106 points this season. In the playoffs, Johnson started all five games, averaging 14.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists helping his team win their second IBL championship. Johnson has also been named to the 2000-2001 All-IBL First Team for the second consecutive season.

Last year, Johnson averaged 20.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 39.0 minutes per game. He started 59 of 62 games and was the Swarm's leading scorer with 1, 284 points. Johnson held five Swarm individual honors for the 1999-2000 season: Most points scored in a game (39 vs. Trenton 12/3), field goals made (16 vs. Trenton 12/3), field goals attempted (24 vs. New Mexico 3/17), steals (6 vs. Trenton 12/3, Baltimore 3/25), and minutes played (47 vs. Richmond 2/1).

Johnson just completed his second year in professional basketball. Prior to his first season with the IBL in 2000, he played overseas with Cholet of France Pro A league, where he led the team in scoring by averaging 15 points a game. Johnson spent two months last summer participating in the San Antonio Spurs Rookie/Free Agent Camp and the Indiana Pacers NBA Summer League. He is a graduate of the College of Charleston (1999). Johnson finished his last two seasons at Charleston, where he averaged 9.8 points and 4.0 rebounds in 59 games. As a senior, Johnson helped his team to a 28-3 record while averaging 10.0 points and 6.2 rebounds in 29 games. He was named an All-Southern Conference Team selection as a junior (1997-98), while helping his team to a 24-6 record. Johnson spent his first two years of college at Clemson University (1994-96) where he led the Tigers in field goal percentage (.543), while averaging 3.2 points and 1.9 rebounds in 16 games.
