JetHawks to Keep Fans Warm in April with New Polar Bear Club

February 20, 2009 - California League (CalL1)
Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - Enjoying outdoor activities during the early spring in the Antelope Valley can be a rather chilly proposition. That is why the Lancaster JetHawks, Class A affiliate of the Houston Astros, have come up with a great new way to enjoy exciting professional baseball while staying warm and comfortable at the ballpark. The brand new "Polar Bear Club" will give its members access to a special heated section, as well as hot chocolate and a blanket, along with ticket discounts for all April home games at Clear Channel Stadium.

"We've got lots of great fans that love coming to the ballpark, but have a tough time staying warm in the desert night," explains JetHawks General Manager Larry Thornhill. "We wanted to develop some ways of helping out and to encourage fans that prefer to stay indoors until later in the season to get out to Clear Channel Stadium earlier in the year. The Polar Bear Club will be a fun and practical way of enjoying great JetHawks baseball while getting to keep the feeling in your fingers, toes, and claws!"

The heated section will feature several outdoor space heaters and will be exclusive to Polar Bear Club members. Along with this special benefit, Polar Bear Club members will receive a ticket to all 14 JetHawks home games in April. They will receive a specially designed JetHawks Polar Bear Club blanket, as well as a hot dog and cup of hot chocolate at each game. In addition, Polar Bear Club members will be given their own discount at the JetHawks Gift Store to help stock up on JetHawks sweatshirts, jackets, windbreakers, and new gear featuring the Houston Astros logo.

With new ownership bringing great ideas and a new Major League Affiliation with the Houston Astros, Thornhill feels the energy building in anticipation of the start of the baseball season. "I see this as just the tip of the iceberg, if I can get away with using a polar cliché," he says. "Our new owners are determined to make JetHawks games the most affordable and the most fun family entertainment, not just in the Antelope Valley, but beyond. With the addition of the Hawkettes, brand new promotions like the Polar Bear Club, and the great giveaways and fireworks shows that we'll be announcing shortly, there is no doubt that families and fans coming to Lancaster JetHawks games will have more fun than ever."

Membership in the Polar Bear Club will cost just $120 per person, including the tickets, gifts, and food for each April game. Those who sign up will receive a unique membership card.

Check back with www.JetHawks.com frequently in coming weeks for updates on brand new promotions, special ticket offers, and a brand new page featuring the Hawkettes. The website will also feature regular information from spring training straight from Astros training camp in Florida and from former JetHawks across the Major Leagues. While online, sign up for the JetHawks Blast to have the latest information sent straight to your e-mail.

The JetHawks open the 2009 season, its first as an affiliate of the Houston Astros, on April 9 at High Desert before returning for the home opener on April 13. Great ticket packages are on sale now and may be ordered by calling (661) 726-5400. For more information, please visit the JetHawks official website www.JetHawks.com.
