Lancaster JetHawks News Release

Lake Elsinore, Ca. – Lancaster's 15-hit attack provided enough offense to overcome four errors in an 8-6 win over the Strom at the Diamond. The JetHawks (17-16) avoid a sweep in the four game series, and ended their season long five game losing streak. Lake Elsinore's (18-14) five game winning streak ended, as did their seven game home winning streak. The win brings Lancaster to 1 ½ games of first place in the South Division.

The Storm took the lead in the bottom of the first on Freddy Guzman's lead-off triple, and a sacrifice fly by Jon Benick. It was the first time the JetHawks did not score the first run of the game since April 27th, a span of 11 games.

The deficit was short-lived, as Lancaster scored two in the second, and led the rest of the game. Sergio Santos and Jaime Jones both reached to lead off the inning, on a walk and single, respectively. Mike DiRosa tied the score on a sacrifice fly, and Mike Thiessen drove home Jones with a two out single.

Lancaster took their biggest lead of the game with three runs in the fourth. Thiessen's ground out scored DiRosa, before Dan Uggla, Josh Kroeger, and Santos hit consecutive doubles with two outs, providing a 6-2 advantage.

Jones had three singles on the night in four at bats, to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. He has 21 hits in 46 at-bats during the streak.

DiRosa, Uggla, Kroeger, and Chris Snyder each added two hits, while Thiessen drove home two runs.

Justin Wechsler (3-1) earned his second win as a starter, with five innings pitched. Despite walking five batters, the right-hander allowed three hits and four runs (three earned) in his third start of the season.

Kevin Beavers (0-1) suffered the loss in his first appearance with the Storm. The lefty worked 2 2/3 innings, and was charged with five hits and three earned runs.

Pete Sikaras pitched a perfect ninth for his third save.

The JetHawks return home for a three game weekend series against Rancho Cucamonga. Doug Slaten (3-2, 4.10) will pitch the first game, against Jake Woods (2-2, 4.54) for the Quakes in a 7:15 p.m. game.
