Lancaster JetHawks News Release
Lancaster, Ca. â The High Desert Mavericks erased an early 3-0 deficit in beating the JetHawks 11-9 at the Hangar. Lancaster's (15-11) three game winning streak ends, and the Mavericks put an end to their eight game losing streak, and their 11-game road losing streak. With Rancho Cucamonga's win against Lake Elsinore, the JetHawks fall to second place in the South Division.
The normally reliable Lance Cormier (3-3) was battered around by the Mavericks in his shortest outing of the season. Cormier lasted just 4 1/3 innings, and was tagged for nine hits and 10 runs, eight of which were earned. Cormier also walked three, after allowing just one walk to the previous 124 batters faced entering the game.
Six runs in the third erased the JetHawks three-run lead. Frolian Villanueva singled, and Daryl Clark walked with the bases loaded, before Brian Foster doubled with the bases loaded to score three runs. Scott Candelaria's groundout later in the inning scored Foster with the sixth run.
Foster was not in the starting lineup, and entered the game after catcher Kade Johnson suffered a knee injury in the first inning. Foster finished the night 2-for-3 with five RBI's, adding a two run homer in the fifth.
Foster's homer was part of a five run inning, giving the Mavericks a commanding lead. Four straight singled plated two runs after the home run, and Todd West capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly.
Marland Williams led the JetHawks offense with three hits, and four runs scored. Josh Kroeger finished up a stellar four game series with two more hits, and three RBI's.
The seven game home stand continues with three games against the Lake Elsinore Storm. Matt Henrie (1-3, 4.08) toes the rubber for the JetHawks against right-hander Justin Germano (2-1, 4.50). Game time is 7:15 p.m.
