Lancaster JetHawks News Release

Bakersfield, Ca. – The JetHawks slugged three home runs in defeating the Bakersfield Blaze 10-5 at Sam Lynn Ballpark, taking two of three in the series. Lancaster (22-17) becomes the first team to defeat the Blaze (25-14) in a series at home this season. With Lake Elsinore's loss to High Desert, the JetHawks move to within a half-game of first place in the South Division.

Jaime Jones led the way offensively with two home runs, a solo shot in the fourth, and a two-run blast in the fifth. He connected a total of three times in the series, and has hit all five of his home runs against North Division opponents.

Jones' two homers mounted a comeback from a 3-1 deficit. His first cut Bakersfield's lead to just a single run.

In the fifth, Danny Richar led off with a double, and scored two batters later on Dan Uggla's RBI single, tying the score at 3-3. Uggla stole second, and took third on Josh Kroeger's groundball. After Sergio Santos walked, starter Brian Lockwood worked a third-to-first move, to catch Santos off the bag. But in the rundown, Uggla raced home and slid head first around catcher Josh Arhart to score the go-ahead run. Uggla was credited with a steal of home as Santos was safe at second. Jones then delivered his second homer for a 6-3 lead.

Lockwood (3-2) took the loss, in giving up six hits and six runs (five earned) in five innings.

Doug Slaten was unable to maintain it, however, as he walked the bases full in the bottom half of the fifth. Brian Martin cut the lead back to one with a two-run single through the left side of the infield.

With the tying run at third, Corby Medlin relieved Slaten. After a failed double-steal attempt cut down Edgar Gonzalez at home, Medlin finished the inning on Jorge Maduro's grounder to short.

Medlin (1-0) earned his first Cal League win with 1 2/3 innings of shutout relief.

Kyle Nichols provided the third home run of the night with a towering solo blast over the left-center field fence in the sixth. It was his sixth of the season.

The six game North Division road trip continues with a three game series against the Visalia Oaks. Scott Barber (3-2, 6.39) will pitch the series opener against Zach Parker (2-2, 3.92) in a 7:05 p.m. start.

The next home game will be Tuesday May 20th, where 500 fans will receive a Barry Zito bobblehead, the first in a five piece "Legends of the Cal League" series. Bobbleheads will be distributed on a lottery basis. Packs of trading cards, courtesy of Upper Deck will be distributed to the first 1,000 fans on Friday, May 30.
