
Jamestown Beats Soo 3-2 After Comeback Scare

The Jamestown Ironmen survived a determined comeback attempt by the Soo Eagles on the way to a 3-2 win.
Jamestown made the score 3-1 on a goal by Luc Gerdes at 11:55 in the third period, and Soo got as close as 3-2 when Alex Robert scored 14:27 into the third period.
Gerdes was all over the ice for the Ironmen, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Gerdes scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:30 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Jamestown. Jamestown had taken the advantage when the Eagles' Matt Menta got sent off for tripping. Evan Ritt provided the assist. Gerdes' next tally on the power play made the score Jamestown with 8:05 left in the third period. Ritt assisted on the tally.
The Ironmen average 28.0 shots on goal per game, but only sent 19 pucks on net against Soo. Jamestown's defensemen bolstered the Ironmen's offensive attack, as they bombarded Zach Nagelvoort with eight shots.
Tyler Minx also scored for Jamestown. Other players who recorded assists for Jamestown were Ryan Doucet, who had one.
By firing 33 shots on goal, the Eagles exceeded the 28.3 shots they average per game this year.
Soo was helped by Jared VanWormer, who grabbed one goal. VanWormer scored 14:38 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Jamestown. Eric Rivard provided the assist. In addition, Soo received assists from Brandon Adams, Michael Crowley, and Denver Pierce, who each chipped in one.
Tim Shaughnessy rejected 31 shots on goal for Jamestown. The Ironmen totaled 24 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Zach Nagelvoort made 16 saves for the Eagles on 19 shots. Soo totaled 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
