ATLANTA (Monday, July 28, 2003) - Carolina's Venus James has been selected as the league's MET-Rx Player of the Week for the week ending July 27, 2003. James scored two consecutive goals in just 21 minutes against Philadelphia on Saturday, July 26 to lead the Courage to a 3-1 victory. James scored her first goal of the night early in the second half, breaking a 1-1 tie. Positioned at the top of the penalty area, James received a cross from Tiffany Roberts, blasting a header past Charge goalkeeper Hope Solo for a 2-1 Courage lead. James sealed the Courage victory in the 82nd minute when she beat Solo at the top of the box and put the ball in the back of the net for a 3-1 Carolina victory.
