Jamario Moon named CBA Defensive Player of the Year

ALBANY, NY (March 27, 2007) -The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Albany Patroons forward Jamario Moon has been named the CBA Defensive Player of the Year for the 2006-07 season, as voted on by the seven CBA head coaches.

Moon averaged 2.4 blocks and 1.9 steals a game in his 44 games for the Patroons, finishing with 107 blocks and 86 steals on the season. The 2.4 blocks a game was good for second overall and the 1.9 steals a game was good for third in the CBA this season. The 6-8, 210-pound forward finished with the season with 18.8 points, and 7.5 rebounds per game for the American Conference Champions.

Joining Moon on the CBA All-Defensive Team are Albany Guard, Kwan Johnson, Yakama guard Ralph Holmes, Minot forward Ray Cunningham and Minot center Kenyon Gamble.

Johnson appeared in 41 games for the Patroons in his second season in the CBA, averaging 18.1 points and 5.7 rebounds. He also chipped in with 1.6 steals a game for Albany, good for sixth overall in the CBA this season. Johnson as a vital cog in the Patroons team defense all season long.

Holmes helped the Sun Kings in allowing a CBA low 94.4 points a game this season. Holmes averaged 19.7 points in 38 games for the National Division champions. Holmes had 1.8 steals a game, good for fourth in the CBA this season. Holmes was named the 2007 CBA All-Star Game MVP after scoring 25 points in an overtime victory.

Cunningham made quite the impression on CBA head coaches in his inaugural season in the CBA. Cunningham averaged 17.4 points and 7.4 rebounds a game for the Skyrockets. Cunningham has a member of the 2007 American Conference All-Star team, who found himself guarding multiple positions every night for Minot.

Gamble makes his second appearance on the All-Defensive team this season, after being named to the team last season while in Rockford. Gamble blocked 156 shots this season, which is tied for eighth all-time in CBA history. Gamble averaged 6.6 rebounds for the Skyrockets and was the defensive presence in the middle for Minot all season long.
