Jake DeClute joins Cleveland City Stars as assistant coach

The Cleveland City Stars (CCS) add one more piece to the puzzle as they prepare for their inaugural season of USL Division 2 outdoor soccer. The player roster is already beginning to take shape, with seven recent signings, and now the coaching staff will get some muscle with the addition of Jake DeClute, a former Wheaton College standout and assistant coach.
DeClute has made his name as an assist man. He is 10th on Wheaton College's all-time career assists record list with 22. He is also still in the top twenty for most assists in one game (4) on the Illinois High School Association's boys soccer all-time records list. During his playing career at Wheaton College, he received all-CCIW (College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) honors three times as well as all-Region honors in 1996. In 1997 Jake co-captained his team to a National Championship and returned as captain the following season.
After graduation DeClute played high level soccer for the Chicago Fire Reserves and Chicago Eagles before returning to Wheaton to begin his coaching career under the tutelage of Joe Bean, the most winning coach at any level in college soccer history. Bean was named Division III Coach of the Year in 2005, and the award has since been renamed the "Joe Bean Coach of the Year Award" in honor of his accomplishments and contributions to college soccer. Bean was Jake's most influential mentor and helped lay the foundation for his continued success as a coach and team leader.
"It is a real honor to work alongside of Martin Rennie, who I consider one of the top coaches for all levels in our country. This is a very exciting and new organization and it is a priviledge to work and be part of this Francise." commented DeClute after his arrival in Cleveland earlier this week.
Martin Rennie, the CCS head coach, looks forward to reuniting with DeClute. They worked together at Cascade Surge PDL, in Oregon. "He is a very capable and experienced coach and I know I can depend on him to help develop this team into something special. But beyond that, Jake is just a quality human being.", Rennie commented. DeClute won't be showing off his skills on the field, but his love and understanding of the game will undoubtedly be apparent in his leadership from the sidelines.

In good old "American Idol" fashion, the Cleveland City Stars will hold their only tryouts to perform the National Anthem at one of their Home Games for all interested and passionate Singers at the beginning of April in Downtown Cleveland !
