COLUMBUS, OHIO - Major League Lacrosse today announced that Ohio Machine close defenseman Jackson Place has been named the Warrior Defensive Player of the Week for Week 5.
Place held the league's leading scorer, Boston Cannons attackman Will Manny, to just one assist and three shots on goal on Saturday in a 14-7 Machine victory in Boston. Manny entered the contest averaging 6.75 points and six shots on goal per game. He tallied 10 points in his previous game before being held to just one by Place.
In Week 4, Place held last year's scoring champion, New York's Rob Pannell, to just one goal and one assist. Pannell tallied eight goals and one assist in Week 5 against Charlotte.
Place, a 2014 graduate of Bucknell, is in his third season with the Machine. He scored his first career MLL goal -- and his first since he was 17 years old -- in Week 2 at Denver.
The Defensive Player of the Week award is the third of the season for Ohio. Goalie Adam Fullerton earned the honor in Week 1, and Brian Karalunas won it in Week 4. Marcus Holman was named the Warrior Offensive Player of the Week in Week 3.
The Machine return to action on Thursday, June 2, at the Rochester Rattlers at 7:30pm. Their next home game is on Saturday, June 4, against the Florida Launch at 7:30pm. For tickets, visit
