
Jackals Post Perfect Week

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO --- With just one win after the first two weeks of the season, the defending Eastern Conference Champion Elmira Jackals (4-2-1) completed the third week of the season riding a three-game winning streak.
The Jackals defeated the Adirondack IceHawks (2-5-0) in back-to-back match ups on Thursday (6-2) and Friday (5-4) and the Port Huron Beacons (6-3-0) on Sunday (4-3).
Elmira is tied for second place in the East with the Flint Generals (4-2-1) and currently own the longest winning streak (3) in the league.
Left wing Kevin Kerr (4g, 1a), the current UHL All-Time Leader in goals (411), game winning goals (57), power play goals (152) and shots on goal (2,160), registered a pair of goals in both games on Friday and Sunday to power the Jackals' offense. He currently ranks third on the UHL All-Time Scoring List with 779 (411g, 368a) points.
In his Jackals debut, netminder Marco Emond turned away 24 of 26 Icehawks' shots on Friday to earn his first win of the season. Emond registered a 3-0-0 record, a .906 save percentage and 3.00 goals against average to complete the week.
Elmira will attempt to extend their winning streak and better their position when they host the current Colonial Cup Champion Muskegon Fury on Thursday (October 31) and Eastern Conference rival Fort Wayne Komets on Friday (November 1). The Jackals face off against the Fury in Muskegon on Saturday (November 2) to complete the week.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Michel Massie - Fort Wayne finished the third week of the season with six points (3g, 3a) in three games. He opened the week with one goal in Friday's 3-2 victory over the Rockford IceHogs and notched four points (1g, 3a) on Saturday, leading the Komets to a 7-3 win over the Western Conference leading Quad City Mallards. The 25-year-old Montreal, Quebec native extended his four game goal-scoring streak, tallying a power play goal on Sunday against the Missouri River Otters. Massie has recorded at least one point in each game he has played (4g, 5a) and is currently tied for second in the UHL with Elmira's Kevin Kerr with a .400 shooting percentage.
Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Adirondack left wing Dominic Chiasson, Elmira right wing Kevin Kerr, Flint left wing Jean Francois Lebarre, Kalamazoo right wing Justin Cardwell, Missouri center Joey Bastien, Muskegon left wing Brant Blackned, Port Huron left wing Michel Beausoleil, Quad City forward Tony Lawrence and Rockford center Jeff Antonovich.
GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
Sylvain Daigle - Muskegon finished the third week of the season posting a 2-0-0 record, a .50 GAA, a .980 save percentage and his 10th career professional shutout. He successfully turned away 19 of 19 shots in Saturday's 3-0 victory over the Port Huron Beacons. The 2002 UHL Goaltender of the Year stopped 29 of 30 shots on goal in Friday's 4-1 victory over the Kalamazoo K-Wings. The 26-year-old St. Hyacinthe, Quebec native currently ranks fourth in the UHL with a 2.41 goals against average. Daigle was a three-time Goaltender of the Week and a two-time Goaltender of the Month (December 2001 / January 2002) winner last season.

AROUND THE LEAGUE: EASTERN CONFERENCE
Adirondack IceHawks (0-2-0 for the week, 2-5-0 overall) The IceHawks lead the UHL in penalty killing (92.7%)... Forwards Bogdan Rudenko and J.C. Ruid registered back-to-back goals 18 seconds apart, the quickest two Adirondack goals this season... Netminder Jason Wolfe made his IceHawks debut on Friday, stopping eight of 10 Jackals shots... Play a home-and-home series with the Port Huron Beacons on Friday and Saturday.
Elmira Jackals (3-0-0 for the week, 4-2-1 overall) The Jackals are currently riding a three-game winning streak... Have not lost a game in regulation to the IceHawks since February 17, 2002... Rookie forward Tom Clayton is currently riding a three game point scoring streak... Face off against the Muskegon Fury for the first time since the 2002 Colonial Cup Finals last spring.
Flint Generals (1-1-0 for the week, 4-2-1 overall) The Generals have posted a 3-0-0 record against Kalamazoo this season and have won five straight against the K-wings since January 21, 2001... Left wing J.F. Labarre registered his first professional hat trick on Saturday against Kalamazoo... Rookie netminder Sean Weaver recorded his first professional win on Saturday... Right wing Jim Duhart is one goal away from 300 career goals.
Fort Wayne (2-1-0 for the week, 4-3-0 overall) The Komets outshot opponents this week 108-81 and have outshot opponents in five straight contests... Left wing David Beauregard appeared in his 200th UHL regular season game on Saturday and tallied his first goal of the season... Forward Michel Massie is currently riding a five-game point-scoring streak, notching nine points (4g, 5a) during that span... Left wing Colin Chaulk skated in his 100th UHL game on Sunday.
Port Huron Beacons (3-0-0 for the week, 5-0-0 overall) The Beacons currently lead the league with 12 points... Center Jason Firth currently leads all UHL scorers with a +11 and ranks second in league scoring with 11 points (3g, 8a)... Netminder Kory Cooper leads the UHL with a 2.07 goals against average and a .940 save percentage... One of three teams (Rockford, Missouri) that has not yielded a shorthanded goal.
AROUND THE LEAGUE: WESTERN CONFERENCE
Kalamazoo K-Wings (0-3-0 for the week, 1-5-1 overall) The K-Wings are the least penalized team in the UHL, averaging 16.0 penalty minutes per game... Currently 0-4-0 when opponents score first... Center Justin Cardwell registered three of four Kalamazoo goals this past week... Rookie netminder Jeff Reynaert stopped a team and career high 46 shots on Saturday... Winless in their last five games.
Missouri River Otters (1-1-1 for the week, 3-3-1 overall) The River Otters are undefeated at home in the last four games, posting a 3-0-1 record... Netminder Brian Regan is undefeated in his last four starts (3-0-1) with a 1.50 goals against average and .947 save percentage... Defenseman Kevin Chabbert notched his first professional goal on Saturday... Rank second in the UHL with an 88.9 penalty killing percentage.
Muskegon Fury (2-0-0 for the week, 3-3-0 overall) The Fury have killed off 14 consecutive power play opportunities and 22 of the last 23 for an efficiency rating of 95.7%... After Saturday's 3-0 shutout of the Port Huron Beacons, the Fury have posted a 25-1-4 record against Port Huron teams... Goaltender Sylvain Daigle (246) is four games away from 250 career games played... Allowed a league-high four short handed goals.
Quad City Mallards (2-1-0 for the week, 5-3-0 overall) The Mallards continue to lead the UHL in points (98), goals (38), assists (60) and power play goals (16)... Rookie left wing Tony Lawrence (3g, 5a) currently leads all UHL first-year players with five assists and is tied for second among rookies with a +7 rating... Right wing Steve Gibson's five-game goal-scoring streak and seven-game point-scoring streak was halted on Sunday.
Rockford IceHogs (2-1-0 for the week, 4-2-1 overall) The IceHogs 4-2-1 record marks their best start since moving to Rockford from Thunder Bay... Rookie center Steve Cygan has tallied a point in five of six games this season... Goaltender Corwin Saurdiff picked up his first win in a Rockford uniform on Saturday.
