Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY. - Jack Rodewald scored his first regular season American Hockey League goal as the Binghamton Senators fell 4-1 to the St. John's IceCaps on Tuesday night at Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.
St. John's got on the board less than a minute into the game following a B-Sens turnover from behind the net which turned into Nikita Scherbak's eighth goal of the year. After intercepting a pass, Scherbak sent a shot past Chris Driedger from the faceoff circle. Charles Hudon picked up the assist on the goal, but Binghamton managed to hold the score to 1-0 going into the first intermission despite being outshot 12-9.
Rodewald managed to tie the game for the home team less than nine minutes into the middle frame. After Buddy Robinson fought for the puck behind the net, Rodewald picked up a feed directly in front of Charlie Lindgren and sent home his first goal of the year with Chris Rumble tallying the secondary assist.
The IceCaps responded with almost two minutes left in the period after David Broll took control of a rebound and notched his first goal of the season. Mark MacMillan and Brett Lernout helped assist on the goal to push the score to 2-1 in favor of the visitors heading into the final intermission.
Stefan Matteau doubled the lead for the IceCaps at the 6:17 mark of the third after sending a rocket over Dridger's blocker hand and literally through the net for a delayed goal call after a video review. St. John's scored on a power-play opportunity a little over a minute later to move the final score to 4-1. Daniel Audette and Mark Barberio helped set up Hudon at the faceoff circle to send a hard shot past Dreidger.
Driedger finished the night with 25 saves while Lindgren took the win stopping 31 shots.
