IT´S PLAYOFF TIME...After another incredible season of staying undefeated at home in Cleveland, the third place Cleveland City Stars, 10-3-7, have now earned the right host the sixth place Western Mass Pioneers, 5-9-6, tomorrow (Wednesday) at 7 p.m. at Krenzler Stadium in the first round of the single elimination USL-2 Playoffs.
It will be the third meeting of the season between the clubs as the two sides played to a 2-2 draw at Western Mass in Boston on June 1 with Cleveland winning 3-1 in Cleveland on July 4.
Callum Bissett started the scoring in the first match off an assist from Neil Krause. League Rookie Sallieu Bundu evened the match at 1-1 off an assist from Brazilian midfielder Adriano Sella. The back-and-forth match continued in the 35th minute when Krause put the Pioneers up 2-1 off an assist from Jeff Deren. Just before halftime, Dana McGregor connected on a beautiful bicycle kick for the equalizer and the 2-2 draw.
The second match started quickly as the Pioneers surprised the Stars in the 1st minute when Deren scored off a Krause assist. Cleveland took control of the match and scored three straight goals for the victory. Floyd Franks scored a 61st minute penalty kick, Derek Potteiger scored in the 77th minute off a Ryan Stewart assist and Stewart came back in the 85th minute to get a goal of his own from a Luke Williams pass. The Cleveland defense did not allow another shot on goal after the first minute breakdown. Federico Molinari, coach Leszek Wrona, and Krause all received red cards for Western Mass during the heated match.
