Albany Panthers News Release
ALBANY, GA (February 16, 2010) - With their inaugural game less than two months away, the Albany Panthers of the Southern Indoor Football League began filling their roster with the signing of ten players that are familiar to South Georgia fans.
Joining the Panthers is six-year wideout Robert Kilow (5'11 190, Arkansas State). In 2008, Kilow led the AF2 Iowa Barnstormers with 95 receptions for 1,026 yards and 21 touchdowns while also proving to be a threat in special teams with 1,010 kick return yards and two touchdowns. In 2009, Robert signed with the South Georgia Wildcats but made only one appearance due to injury. He six-year career includes stints with the AF2 Arkansas Twisters and AFL Chicago Rush while amassing 406 receptions, 4,651 yards and 87 touchdowns.
Returning to South Georgia is longtime backup quarterback Cecil Lester (6'1 220, Fort Valley State). Lester was the back-up quarterback for the Wildcats in 2007 and began the 2008 season as the starter before being replaced midway through the season. Cecil made nine appearances last season for the Wildcats throwing for 434 yards and nine touchdowns.
"Kilow is an experienced wide receiver that runs great routes, has excellent hands, and knows the ins and outs of the indoor games," says Albany Panthers Head Coach Lucious Davis. "I am very pleased with the players signed thus far, as our main priority was to find some familiar faces and gather experience."
In addition, returning to Albany is defensive lineman Jason Marshall (6'1 320, Albany State) who spent the last two seasons with the Wildcats. In 2009, Marshall made two appearances nabbing one sack. The club also signed quarterback Jeff Aaron (6'3 230, University of Alabama Birmingham). Back in 2004, after losing their first game and starting quarterback, Aaron helped the Birmingham Steeldogs reel off six straight wins on their way to the AF2 playoffs.
Also joining the Panthers with a combined three years of arena experience is wide receiver John Harris (6'1 198, Northwest Mississippi Community College) and fullback Kevin Campbell (6'3 285, Troy). The Panthers also signed three rookies via local Albany State University including defensive back Clamenta Bell (6'1 190), defensive back Terry McGhee (5'9 180), linebacker Ryan Davis (6'2 245) along with defensive back Joshua Nesbit (5'9 180, Clark Atlanta University).
The Albany Panthers are hosting player tryouts on Saturday March 6th from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Albany State University, for more questions regarding the tryouts, please contact Albany Panthers Head Coach Lucious Davis at 832-232-1613.
