Isobel Cup Champion Emily Janiga Returns to the NWHL, Signs with the Riveters

NJ/NY - Emily Janiga, the former College Hockey America Player of the Year from Mercyhurst and an Isobel Cup champion with Buffalo in 2017, has signed with the Metropolitan Riveters for the upcoming NWHL season.
"I am extremely thankful for this opportunity to be a part of the Riveters organization next season and cannot wait to get things started," said Janiga, a native of East Aurora, NY. "The Riveters staff has been extremely welcoming during this process and I can't thank them enough. I look forward to being part of an organization driven to grow the game of hockey. Being heavily involved in youth hockey this past season, I understand the importance of visibility for the younger generation. This is a great opportunity to give back to the sport I love and be a positive role model for the generations to come."
Janiga, who was selected by Buffalo with the 16th overall pick in the first-ever NWHL Draft, has played two seasons in the league. As a rookie in 2017, she had three goals and an assist in two playoff games - including a goal in the Final against Boston - as Buffalo won the Isobel Cup. After a season in the CWHL with Vanke Rays, Janiga played for the Beauts as they advanced to the Cup Final in 2019. In 33 regular season NWHL games, the 5-10 forward has 7 goals and 10 assists.
The 5-10 forward had a dominant collegiate career at Mercyhurst, where she was 72-79-151 in 141 games over four seasons between 2012 - 2016. As a junior, she was the CHA scoring champion (27-18-45 in 35 games) and was honored as the conference's Player of the Year. Janiga was an All-CHA First Team All-Star in 2014 and 2015, and was named to the All-Rookie Team in 2013.
"Emily is an offensive force and a great addition to the high-skilled forwards we have already signed for next season," said Riveters head coach Ivo Mocek. "She also brings a lot of experience from a very successful college career and being an important part of two great teams in Buffalo. Emily was a priority signing for us this offseason and we are very excited that she has joined the Riveters."
