Islanders Take Momentum on the Road
June 24, 2009 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release
As the Islander's (7-2-1, 22 points) hit the road this weekend, they will carry with them the momentum they've built up in their last four games; all of which were victories at home. Their most recent 4-0 defeat of the Real Maryland Monarchs on Saturday, June 20th helped solidify their place at the top of the USL-2 Standings. The outcome of this weekend's matches will either make or break that first place position.
In Saturday's defeat of Real Maryland, Jason Pelletier had one goal and one assist, Nicki Paterson scored on a PK, and Tiyi Shipalane, scored two goals, and had one assist for his achievements Shipalane was named the USL Second Division Player of the Week. Also in Saturday's victory, Islander keeper, Chase Harrison, earned yet another shut out, and helped the Islanders remain undefeated at home thus far in the regular season.
The Islanders will look to take that momentum on the road for back-to-back league matches this weekend. This Friday, June 26th the Islanders will play at the Charlotte Eagles (3-4-3, 12 points) for the second time this season. In their first meeting this season on City Island, Harrisburg defeated Charlotte 3-0. Kick-off in Charlotte is at 7:00pm.
After their game on Friday, the team will have to recover and recuperate quickly as they take on the Wilmington Hammerheads (5-3-2, 17 points) at 7pm on Saturday, June 27th. This will be the first time the two teams have met this season. Wilmington is currently in third place, so a win against Wilmington is crucial to cement the Islanders' position at the top of the USL-2!
