Islanders Host Western Mass

July 16, 2008 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release

The Harrisburg City Islanders (5-1-8, 23 points) will return home to cozy Skyline Sports complex for the first time in three weeks this coming Saturday night as they play host to the Western Mass Pioneers (5-7-5, 20 points) at 7:05pm. In what promises to be a hard fought affair between two teams jockeying for playoff positioning the Islanders will look to earn a full three points that could push them closer to the top of the league table.

Entering the game on a ten game unbeaten run the City Islanders will be aiming to find a way to break out of the form that has seen them tie 8 games this year while only winning 5. That record, along with only one loss, has the team sitting in fourth place behind Charlotte (34 points), Richmond (29 points) and Cleveland (29 points). The Islanders have played 14 games to date while the three teams ahead of them have each played 15. Looking ahead toward possible playoff placements Harrisburg skipper Bill Becher has expressed optimism with where the team is and how things may finish up. "Sitting a game in hand and still in reach of the leaders at this point is good. We've had a tough schedule, especially early, and we played all those top 3 teams twice. Now they all play each other and hopefully they knock each other around. They are going to drop some points over the last five games, we just need to keep doing our job so that we end up where we wanted to at the start of the season, on top."

Along with the match against the Western Mass. Pioneers on Saturday night the Islanders will host a Central PA Pro-Soccer Alumni night game featuring over 25 players from past pro franchises here in the mid-state. Players from the former Harrisburg Heat and Hershey Wildcats, along with Islanders Alumni, will participate in a game that kicks off at 5:00pm.

Gates will open at 4:00. Tickets for the game are still available and may be ordered by calling 717-441-4625 or visiting the team website at www.cityislanders.com.
