Newark, N.J. (Tuesday, August 05, 2008) - In a continual effort to support the communities around the state, the New Jersey Ironmen headed out to Westside Park today for "National Night Out," an annual event conducted by the Newark Police Department to promote crime prevention. Also joining the festivities were Newark Mayor Cory A. Booker and Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, Jr.

"The entire City of Newark is making monumental strides in growth, and that is directly related to how safe this community has become," Ironmen General Manager Tony Novo stated. "The work of Newark Mayor Cory A. Booker, Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, Jr., and the Newark Police Department has been nothing short of amazing, and we proudly support their efforts."

The gala started today at 2:00 p.m. with many activities such as musical performances, sporting activities, face painting and clowns present to keep the audience entertained. The Dark Knight himself, Batman, and McGruff the Crime Dog were also on hand, and the day-long affair will conclude with a special "Movie under the Stars" screening of the motion picture "Transformers" beginning tonight at 8:30 p.m.

Celebrating their 25th year, the "National Night Out" has a focus to unite the Newark Police Department with the local community in a collective effort to fight crime. Booths were also staged at the affair to distribute information for organizations such as D.A.R.E. and G.R.E.A.T.

The New Jersey Ironmen are currently underway in their inaugural summer camp programming. Camps are conducted by the Ironmen coaching staff and players, offering participants the rare experience of learning directly from the pros.
