New Jersey Ironmen News Release
Newark, N.J. (Monday, May 5, 2008) - The New Jersey Ironmen continue to show their dedication to the City of Newark. On a weekend that started this past Friday with goalkeeper Tony Meola taking part in the Newark School System's "Principal for a Day" Program at Rafael Hernandez School, Ironmen players, staff and dance team members spent the next two days of the weekend participating in events for Jersey Cares Day and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. "As an organization, we fully commit ourselves to the positive evolution of the surrounding community," Ironmen General Manager Tony Novo stated. "Newark continues to grow into a rich and vibrant city, and we are honored to play a role in that redevelopment."
As part of Jersey Cares Day this past Saturday, the Ironmen spent the day painting and working on the Ann Street School in the historic Ironbound section of Newark. Jersey Cares is a nonprofit organization that develops community service projects to strengthen and promote positive changes throughout the community, and the annual Jersey Cares Day is a city-wide project aimed at getting residents, corporate employees and other volunteers to help beautify the city.
The Ironmen spent this past Sunday at the Essex County Branch Brook Park partaking in the Susan G. Komen North Jersey Race for the Cure. The Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation was launched in 1982, and it serves as a grassroots network for the fight against breast cancer. Thanks to events such as the Komen Race for the Cure, over $1 billion have been raised over the past 26 years.
