New Jersey Ironmen News Release

Newark, N.J. (Monday, October 6, 2008) - The New Jersey Ironmen added more championship experience today when the club announced the addition of midfielder Lucio Gonzaga. The Brazilian playmaker is now set to reunite with the recently-inked Adauto Neto in Newark this season.

"Lucio originally caught my eye over a year ago on a scouting trip to Brazil," Ironmen Head Coach Omid Namazi stated. "He can make it happen on both ends of the floor, and he really has no weaknesses."

Lucio spent his rookie season with the Baltimore Blast last year, and he was a key contributor to their championship squad. He registered five postseason goals and a pair of assists in the playoffs for a total of 12 points. In the 2007-08 regular season, he tallied 37 points on 15 goals (3 three-pointers, 12 two-pointers) and four assists in 21 games, and he recorded his first indoor knock in only his second career match. He proved to strike when it mattered as well, hitting three game-winning goals.

"Lucio is a versatile player, very technical and also has decent speed," Namazi continued. "Those kind of players don't come along too often. When they do, you have to grab them."

While their time apart may have been very brief, Lucio will reunite with 2005-06 league MVP Adauto Neto at Prudential Center this season. The duo was very effective in a championship run last year in Baltimore, and they have their focus aimed upon bringing the same results to the Ironmen.

The New Jersey Ironmen will make their 2007-08 season debut at Prudential Center on Sunday, December 14th, opening up their sophomore campaign at 4:00 p.m. against the Chicago Storm.
