August 19, 2008 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
New Jersey Ironmen News Release

Newark, N.J. (Tuesday, August 19, 2008) - The New Jersey Ironmen formally announced today that they will partner with the Somerset Patriots for their annual Soccer Night. The first pitch of that evening is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Commerce Bank Park when the Patriots host the Lancaster Barnstormers on Monday, September 15th.

"We are excited to be involved with such a winning franchise as the Somerset Patriots," Ironmen General Manager Tony Novo commented. "The central New Jersey area is a hotbed for soccer, and we are pleased to see the Patriots dedicate an evening to those involved with the beautiful game."

Throughout the game, there will be various soccer-related activities and promotions. Ironmen players and IronDog will be on hand for the night, and the Ironmen Dance Team will be doing an on-field performance. Also making an appearance will be the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer and Jersey Sky Blue of the USL W-League and upcoming Women's Professional Soccer league.

The Somerset Patriots are based in Bridgewater and play in the Freedom Division of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. The team was founded in 1998 and is the only club in league history to win three championships (2001, 2003, 2005). After playing their entire inaugural season on the road, the Patriots moved into Commerce Bank Park in Bridgewater prior to the 1999 season. The team has consistently ranked among the tops of the league in attendance over the past decade.

Since their inception, the Patriots have been managed by former Major League Baseball pitcher Sparky Lyle, who closed out 238 saves over his professional career. He was the first American League relief pitcher to ever win the Cy Young Award when he received the honors in 1977 while pitching for the New York Yankees, also winning a World Series that season. Lyle has twice been named the Atlantic League Manager of the Year (1999, 2003).

The New Jersey Ironmen are currently underway in their inaugural summer camp programming. Camps are conducted by the Ironmen coaching staff and players, offering participants the rare experience of learning directly from the pros. All players also receive a t-shirt, soccer ball and a ticket to the 2008-09 New Jersey Ironmen home opener at Prudential Center this fall. For more information regarding camps, call camp contact Mike Milich today at 973-757-6322 or email him at mmilich@njironmen.com.

The New Jersey Ironmen Dance Team is holding auditions for their 2008-09 squad on Monday, September 8, at Prudential Center. Those selected from the tryouts will perform at every Ironmen home game as well as representing the dance team at numerous promotional appearances throughout the forthcoming year.
