New Jersey Ironmen News Release

NEWARK, NJ - The New Jersey Ironmen (6-3) are pleased to announce that investor/operators Jeff Vanderbeek and Michael Gilfillan have been named the 'Distinguished Persons of the Year' by the Portuguese American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (PACCNJ). The two were presented the award by PACCNJ President Luis Nogueira and Vice President Luis Janota in a ceremony that took place in the Ironbound section of Newark. Also on hand was District 29 Assemblyman and Ironbound Soccer Club Chairman Al Coutinho.

The Portuguese American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey was formed in 2003 and has nearly 200 members. Ironmen General Manager and Vice President of Business Operations Tony Novo issued a statement in regards to the significance of the noted rapport with the PACCNJ and the New Jersey Ironmen.

"We know that we must have a strong relationship with the Portuguese community to be successful, and it is great to see their corporate leaders embracing the corporate leaders of our organization," Novo commented. "With the support of the Portuguese American Chamber of Commerce, we know that we have a solid future in front of us."

Jeff Vanderbeek is the Chairman and Managing Partner of the New Jersey Ironmen and the New Jersey Devils hockey franchise. He also serves as President and Chairman of Devils Renaissance Development LLC, the entity responsible for designing, developing and constructing the home of the Ironmen, Prudential Center. He is also the President and Chairman of Devils Arena Entertainment LLC, the entity responsible for leasing, operating and maintaining Prudential Center. Prior to his current posts, he enjoyed a 24-year career on Wall Street.

Michael Gilfillan, Co-Investor/Operator of the New Jersey Ironmen, is currently the President of Brick City Sports Capital LLC, a sports and entertainment investment management company. He is also the President of Brick City Hockey LLC, co-owner of the New Jersey Devils hockey franchise. He has served on the Board of Directors of Puck Holdings since 2000, and he is also Vice Chairman and Principal of Devils Renaissance Development LLC.

The formation of the PACCNJ in 2003 resulted from the synergies created by an idea of the then Consul General of Portugal in Newark, Dr. Paulo N. Pocinho, which merged with the will and vision of a few local businessmen. The PACCNJ is an organization not devoted to culture, recreation or charit. It is oriented towards the local entrepreneurs who, being Portuguese or not, strive to create wealth and jobs in a great variety of businesses by working with or marketing within the various Portuguese communities in the State of New Jersey.

The New Jersey Ironmen are currently headed out west for a two-game stand in Monterrey, Mexico, and Stockton, California. The team finishes up the three-game road swing in Baltimore before returning to Newark on Saturday, January 5, to host the Detroit Igniton. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 PM, and tickets for that contest at Prudential Center can be purchased by calling 1-800-IRONMEN.
