New Jersey Ironmen News Release
Newark, N.J. (Monday, November 17, 2008) - The New Jersey Ironmen announced today that they will partner with Jersey Cares by hosting a coat drive at their home opener to benefit the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. The Ironmen open their sophomore season on Sunday, December 14th, at Prudential Center when they play a 4:00 p.m. contest against the Chicago Storm.
"As we get closer to the holiday season, it is important to think of the needs of others," Ironmen General Manager Tony Novo stated. "Jersey Cares is a great organization, and we are honored to be able to assist them in such an noble cause."
Fans of the Ironmen are encouraged to drop off "gently-used" winter coats at the Prudential Center entrance on December 14th. Representatives of Jersey Cares will be there to collect all of the donations, and they will be delivered to the Coat Drive Warehouse located at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey in Hillside. Volunteers then sort the donated coats and bag them to be sent to those in need.
Jersey Cares is a nonprofit organization that develops community service projects to strengthen and promote positive changes throughout the community. The overall goal of the 13th Annual Jersey Cares Coat Drive is to collect and distribute 35,000 "gently used" winter coats to at-risk men, women, children and infants. Over the past 10 years, Jersey Cares has collected, sorted and distributed thousands of winter coats to New Jersey residents in need through this program.
The New Jersey Ironmen will open up preseason training on Monday, December 1, and the club has one more open tryout scheduled. The club will host a tryout at Turf City in Wayne this Saturday, November 22, slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. Players interested in attending open tryouts must pre-register by calling Gioia DiFlumeri, Ironmen Operations Manager, at 973-757-6303. Registration for tryouts is $50, and the non-refundable fee must be submitted in cash or check. Tryouts will be conducted on sports turf, and soccer attire (including indoor flats) is required. Applicants will be limited so those interested are encouraged to register as soon as they can.
