Ironmen Host Chicago Storm In 2008-09 Season Opener

September 26, 2008 - Xtreme Soccer League (XSL)
New Jersey Ironmen News Release

Newark, N.J. (Friday, September 26, 2008) - The New Jersey Ironmen were notified today by league officials that the second-year club will be hosting the Chicago Storm in their season opener at Prudential Center on Sunday, December 14. The team will be playing a 20-game slate this season that will run through April.

"It's been a long offseason," Ironmen Head Coach Omid Namazi stated. "I'm sure everyone shares my feeling of excitement with the season so close. We made the playoffs last year in our first season, and the goal is to build off that and contend for a championship. It all starts December 14th."

Namazi, a two-time Coach of the Year, has led four different indoor sides to the postseason and once reached the league finals in four consecutive seasons with three different clubs. He is currently working on the Ironmen roster for this year, and player announcements will be made in the upcoming weeks. Stay tuned to the team website at www.njironmen.com for all of the player signings and latest developments concerning the Ironmen.

Kickoff for the Ironmen opener against Chicago will be 4:00 p.m. at Prudential Center, with season and group tickets available by calling 1-800-IRONMEN. The Xtreme Soccer League season will run through April, and the Ironmen season finale will be played on April 4. The XSL playoffs will begin the following week.

The Ironmen will be hosting the inaugural XTremBol street soccer tournament this Sunday at Prudential Center. Beginning at 9AM, 12 teams will battle it out for the XTremBol crown in the arena parking lot located on the corner of Lafeyette and Broad Street. XTremBol bills itself as a combination of street soccer, music and culture. Their brand is played with a low-bounce ball to increase the speed of the match, requiring players to emphasize pinpoint accuracy in shots and passes. The uniqueness of their game comes in that play will be conducted in closed cages, and the XTremBol goals stand 42" X 30" with no goalkeepers in net. Matches will be 4v4, and the tournament looks to run over a 12-hour span.

The New Jersey Ironmen are currently seeking members for their official kids club. Those interested in joining can click here to download our registration form. You can either fax in the sheet to 973-757-6302 or mail it to the New Jersey Ironmen Kids Club, Prudential Center, 165 Mulberry Street, Newark, NJ 07102.
