New Jersey Ironmen News Release

Newark, N.J. (Friday, January 2, 2009) - Knowing the urgency of the situation, the New Jersey Ironmen have been all-business in their preparation for a crucial game against the Chicago Storm this weekend at the Sears Centre Arena. Facing an unlikely 0-2 record to start the 2008-09 Xtreme Soccer League season, the Ironmen look to right the ship when they kick off the road contest at 2:00 p.m. this Sunday.

"We have gotten off to a slow start, so it is important to work cohesively to get our first win under our belt," Ironmen Head Coach Omid Namazi commented. "Even though this is a road game, we feel that a good performance can let us achieve that."

The Ironmen have faced some difficulty on the road dating back to last season, and the second-year club is currently amid a 10-game losing streak when playing in the arena of the opposition. The roster of New Jersey is loaded with veteran leaders, and Namazi has noted a focused approach from his team at practice since they dropped a heartbreaking 16-14 decision in overtime to the Detroit Ignition on December 20th.

"The players are disappointed, and I don't think anybody anticipated an 0-2 start," he remarked. "The effort of the players at practice has been much greater over the past couple of weeks, and they don't want to miss out on an opportunity to do well with this group of players."

This match marks the second time that the Ironmen have squared off against the Storm this season. Chicago edged New Jersey in a low-scoring affair, 4-2, at the Ironmen season opener on December 14th at Prudential Center. After an Adauto Neto goal in just the second minute of the contest, the New Jersey offense was unable to find the back of the net for the remainder of the game.

The Ironmen return to Prudential Center next weekend for a pair of match-ups in Newark. The team will host the Storm on Friday, January 9th, at 7:30 p.m. before playing host to the Milwaukee Wave that Sunday at 4:00 p.m. The Ironmen provide fun and affordable family entertainment with tickets starting at only $10!
