
Ironmen Goalkeeper Donates Time to Help Raise Funds for Multiple Philanthropies

Newark, N.J. (Thursday, September 11, 2008) - On a day of reflection throughout the country, New Jersey Ironmen goalkeeper Tony Meola will spend Patriot Day in New York City, manning the phones in the 4th Annual BGC Charity Day. Meola will be among the celebrity guests in the day-long event for the international broker BGC.
"The events of September 11, 2001, are obviously still fresh in everyone's minds," a reflective Meola commented. "I'm just happy to play a small part in trying to raise some money for so many great charities, especially on a day that still remains so vivid in my memory."
Meola and other celebrity guests will join BGC brokers in live trades with the firm's clients throughout business hours. 100 percent of the commissions raised in their global offices will go to various charities. The Boomer Esiason Foundation, the Children's Institute, National Down Syndrome Society, Project Find, the Valerie Fund and the Wounded Warrior Project are among the 44 worldwide charities that will receive benefits from the day-long event.
Office hours for the BGC will be 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and they can be reached by calling their offices at (646) 346 7000. The location of the BGC offices are One Seaport Plaza, 19th Floor, 199 Water Street, in Manhattan.
Additional celebrity guests include talk show host Regis Philbin, Sopranos star James Gandolfini, American soccer legends Tab Ramos and Claudia Reyna, former New Jersey Devils center Scott Gomez and actor Matthew Modine.
Meola, an extremely active philanthropist, received the 14th Annual I-Care Award from the Newark Renaissance House on Wednesday evening. He was honored with a fundraising banquet at Prudential Center.
