New Jersey Ironmen News Release

Newark, N.J. (Monday, July 21, 2008) - Growing up in Cape May Court House, Matthew Maher and his soccer-hungry brothers tend to be drawn to outdoor activity. Fusing their need for the sun and their love of soccer, the Maher Brothers founded the "King of the Court" official soccer tennis tournament tour, with the first east coast competition taking place from August 1-3 in Stone Harbor, New Jersey.

Matthew, a former captain of the Temple University soccer team, joins his brothers Anthony and Mike in production of the "King of the Court," and both of his brothers have extensive soccer backgrounds as well. Anthony plays forward for the Milwaukee Wave professional indoor side while Mike is a former U.S. Naval Academy Division One soccer captain and current U.S. Naval Officer.

"My brother, Anthony, had wanted to do this concept for some time, and once I became a professional player as well, we said let's do it," Matthew Maher stated when asked about how the brainchild was developed. "Cape May County has a large population in the summertime, and everyone is always looking for camps and other activities for themselves and their kids. We knew this would be something fun to attack, and when it came to naming the event, 'King of the Court' was a no-brainer."

The "King of the Court" tournament made its debut this past weekend to an impressed audience in Milwaukee, but that competition will be forced to conclude this weekend due to heavy storms in the Midwest. Anthony will be coming back home to Cape May this August, joining Matthew for the tournament debut in New Jersey. The location of that tour stop will be at the 96th Street tennis courts in Stone Harbor, and the entry fee for the tournament is $85 per team with a maximum roster of three players. The game is played two-on-two with the winner of a best-of-three sets moving on to the next round. The three groups are Adult Open (18+), High School Boys & Girls Divisions (Ages 14-18) and Youth Open (Ages 12-15). Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded to winners.

Milwaukee and Cape May are the only stops of the tour this year, but the Maher brothers will be branching out to other locations next summer.
