New Jersey Ironmen News Release
Newark, N.J. (Monday, October 27, 2008)- Amid preparations for their sophomore season, the New Jersey Ironmen announced today a date for open tryouts. The Ironmen are looking to find some hidden gems when they host player auditions at Turf City in Wayne on Saturday, November 22, slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
"We're always looking for local players who can make the jump to the professional level," Ironmen Head Coach Omid Namazi commented. "We would love nothing more than to have some home-based talent help guide us to a league title."
Players interested in attending open tryouts must pre-register by calling Gioia DiFlumeri, Ironmen Operations Manager, at 973-757-6303. Registration for tryouts is $50, and the non-refundable fee must be submitted in cash or check. Those who would like to send a check prior to the tryouts can send it to team offices at New Jersey Ironmen, 165 Mulberry Street, Newark, New Jersey 07102, and must be sent in no later than Saturday, November 15. Tryouts will be conducted on sports turf, and soccer attire (including indoor flats) is required.
The Ironmen will make their 2008-09 season debut on Sunday, December 14, when they host the Chicago Storm at Prudential Center. Two players who will put on the Maroon and Mandarin for the first time prior to that 4:00 p.m. kickoff are 2005-06 MVP Adauto Neto and midfielder Lucio Gonzaga.
In his 137-match career (including playoffs), Neto has tallied 106 goals and 72 assists. The three-time NAIA Division 1 All-American has two league titles under his belt, including a championship last season while playing with the Baltimore Blast. The Brazilian striker is best known by Ironmen fans as the man who ended their inaugural season by hitting a late game-winning goal to eliminate the Ironmen for the postseason this past April.
Lucio spent his rookie season with the Baltimore Blast last year, registering five postseason goals and a pair of assists in the playoffs for a total of 12 points. In the 2007-08 regular season, he tallied 37 points on 15 goals (3 three-pointers, 12 two-pointers) and four assists in 21 games, and he recorded his first indoor knock in only his second career outing. He proved to strike when it mattered as well, hitting three game-winning goals.
