Ira Brown sold to Seattle Mariners

Durham, N.C. -- Ira Brown became the 13th Central Baseball League player sold today when he was purchased by the Seattle Mariners. He is now the 27th CBL alum to appear on an affiliated team's roster this season.

Brown, who was traded to Jackson in the off season, went 4-1 this season with a 2.00 earned run average in six starts. In 36 innings of work, he allowed 24 hits, 10 runs, eight earned, while striking out 40 and walking 20 for Shreveport, which lost in to Edinburg in the Central Baseball League Championship Series. Opponents were hitting .189 against Brown and he never gave up more than three runs in any start.

Brown was originally selected by the Kansas City Royals in the eighth round of the 2001 MLB draft. He spent four years in the organization reaching Class-A Burlington (Iowa) earlier this season. This was his first year in the CBL.
