Published on May 13, 2013 under International League (IL1) News Release

The International League announced today that Pawtucket first baseman/designated hitter Mark Hamilton and Indianapolis pitcher Andy Oliver have been named the League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period from May 6-12. Hamilton is the first PawSox player to win an IL weekly award this season, while Oliver is the second member of the Indians to be so honored (Brett Carroll, April 8-14).

MARK HAMILTON, Pawtucket Red Sox IL BATTER OF THE WEEK

Mark Hamilton hit safely in all seven games this week, leading the International League with four home runs and a 1.000 slugging percentage and helping the PawSox to a six-game winning streak along the way. He was also tied for 2nd in the IL with 10 RBI and 3rd with seven runs scored. Hamilton drove in a run in each of Pawtucket's victories, including a 3-RBI effort in Thursday's 14-9 win over Gwinnett. He now has 27 RBI on the season, the 3rd-best mark in the League.

28-year-old Mark Hamilton is in his eighth professional season and first with the Red Sox organization after signing as a free agent in January. Hamilton is a veteran of 47 Major League games with the St. Louis Cardinals between 2010-11. Hamilton is a native of Baltimore, Maryland.

ANDY OLIVER, Indianapolis Indians IL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Left-hander Andy Oliver picked up a pair of victories by allowing a total of just one run and five hits in starts against the RailRiders and Mud Hens. He tossed 6.0 scoreless innings last Monday on the road against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, surrendering only two hits and striking out five as the Tribe cruised to a 5-0 victory. Back home Saturday against Toledo, Oliver was solid for 5.0 innings, recording six strikeouts and exiting with his team in front 6-1. It was Oliver's third win in eight starts for the Indians this season, and he now leads the International League on the year with 50 strikeouts and an opponent's batting average of .185.

25-year-old Andy Oliver is in his fourth professional season and first with the Pirates organization after being acquired in a trade this past December. Oliver is a veteran of seven starts in the big leagues with the Detroit Tigers. He is a native of Vermilion, Ohio.
