Ime Udoka Latest USBL "Graduate" to NBA

January 15, 2004 - United States Basketball League (USBL) News Release

MILFORD, CT – The United States Basketball League, Inc. (USBL) has had its latest "graduate" to the NBA in former Adirondack Wildcats star Ime Udoka. Udoka was signed to a ten-day contract yesterday by the Los Angeles Lakers, replacing Kobe Bryant who was placed on the injured list. Udoka was no stranger to the Lakers as he was a member of their summer league squad. Udoka scored 4 points and grabbed 2 rebounds in his NBA debut.

Udoka put up outstanding numbers for the Wildcats during the 2003 season. He averaged 19.4 points (6th overall), 9.2 rebounds (8th overall) and 1.9 steals (9th overall) a game over a 15 game span. Udoka's best game of the season was a 28 point, 15 rebound performance in a win over Brooklyn.

Udoka joins Olden Polynice, Keith McLeod, and Oliver Miller as former USBL players who have ‘graduated' to the NBA this season. 21 former USBL players have suited up and played in the NBA this season.

"This is a great honor for USBL, the Adirondack Wildcats, and especially Ime. To do what Ime does at his size is simply amazing. The Lakers will be very happy with Ime and I know that this is just the beginning of a great career for Ime," stated USBL Founder and Commissioner Daniel T. Meisenheimer III.
