IIHL Considers Affiliation Deals
Published on October 15, 2003 under International Independent Hockey League (IIHL) News Release
The new International Independent Hockey League has three league-wide proposals on the table with higher-level leagues.
The IIHL is filling a void at the bottom level on the hockey world's minor league ladder this season and is aiming to develop as many affiliations as possible.
"Moving players to the next level is our goal and we want to develop good relationships with the AA leagues," said Joe Kolodziej, Director of Player Development for the IIHL.
IIHL by-laws allow franchises to form three direct team-to-team affiliations with AA teams. "Beyond that, we're trying to structure league-wide relationships with other leagues," Kolodziej said. "Everyone likes our rules limiting rosters to no more than six foreign-born players, which opens up a lot of opportunities for American players."
Kolodziej said he expects to make a decision on league-wide affiliations by Monday after input from all eight IIHL teams.
Players not currently at a AA camp can get information about the IIHL's only free agent tryout camps by calling Tryout Camp Director Bob Gergerich at (412) 835-3801 or (412) 215-6260. Gergerich is a Professional Hockey Players Association (PHPA) certified Player Agent and is President of Pittsburgh-based International Hockey College (IHC) and the IHC Scouting and Player Placement Service. Gergerich has operated high exposure Junior tryout camps and pro free agent camps for more than 20 years.
