IBL to hold player tryouts in April

Published on February 17, 2009 under International Basketball League (IBL) News Release

Who: for players who want to play in the International Basketball League (the IBL is a fifth year minor basketball league with play from mid April 2009 through July 3rd, 2009).

What: six teams will be present at the Chicago tryout and eight teams will be present at the Portland (Oregon) tryout.

When & Where: players can choose to attend either Kankakee, Illinois on Saturday & Sunday April 4th and 5th or they can choose Portland, Oregon on Saturday & Sunday April 11th and 12th.

Why play in the IBL:  The International Basketball League is a 5th year professional basketball league. After the 2007 IBL season, 102 IBL players went on to play overseas-this established the IBL as the 'place to play' to get an overseas job or to maintain an overseas job. Playing in the IBL (mid April through July 3rd, 2009) is the best way for players to get in shape and sharpen their skills so that a player is in the best position (video, stats and being in shape) to get or maintain an overseas job.

Why attend the tryout: the IBL guarantees that at least six player spots will be awarded to players at the Kankakee tryout (guaranteed) and the IBL guarantees that at least eight players will be awarded to players from the Portland tryout.

The goal with these tryouts-is that players get a full workout and a full opportunity to prove themselves in front of multiple teams who will be present; IBL Commissioner Mikal Duilio- "with 6 - 8 teams watching, the players that are good enough should advance their playing career; just as importantly, players that are not good enough will also have had a solid enough look, to where they can accept the analysis and possibly move on with their non-basketball lives".

Cost: Cost is $150 per tryout; call IBL tryout coordinator Terrance Dickens (ph) 503-805-3311 and/or visit the IBL web site, click on tryouts-which discusses aspects of the tryout but as well, discusses what it means to make an IBL team.
