The Guelph Royals rallied for five runs in the seventh inning and added three more in the top of the ninth to secure their third win of the season, an 11-9 win over the home town Barrie Baycats in one of three games played in the Intercounty Baseball League on Saturday.

It was a see-saw affair for the two teams, as the Royals (3-2) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning but watched as Barrie (4-1) rallied to a 4-3 lead through six complete innings. After their strong seventh and ninth innings, the Royals carried an 11-5 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning but watched the Baycats score four runs to come to within two. The Royals, however, managed a third out, handing the Baycats their first loss of the season. It was a high hitting affair with the Royals edging the Baycats 17-16 on the night.

Starter Andrew Vant Wout was the winner, allowing nine hits and four runs - three earned - with six strikeouts over six innings pitched.

Mark Allen had three hits, two RBI and a run scored in the win, while Kevin Treichel singled twice and drove in three runs. Josh Garton had a pair of hits with two runs scored and two RBI and Tyler Wheeler singled twice and drove in a run. Sean Reilly singled, doubled and crossed the plate three times while Frankie Hare singled, doubled and scored a run. Shaun Valeriote doubled, added a run scored and drove in a run in the win.

After coming on in relief of starter Brad Bissell, Chris England suffered the loss, allowing eight hits and eight runs - four earned - with one walk over two innings.

Ryan Spataro went 4-for-5 in the loss with two run scored, while Jeff Cowan had three hits, one run scored and two RBI. Kevin Atkinson doubled and homered for three RBI and a run scored, and Matt Richardson and Robert Recuenco each added two hits and a run scored in the loss.

Toronto Maple Leafs 8; Burlington Twins 3

In Burlington, Marek Deska tossed seven strong innings and Will Richards and Dan Gibbons both drove in a pair of runs as the Toronto Maple Leafs snapped a three-game losing streak with an 8-3 victory over the Burlington Twins at Nelson Park.

Toronto (2-3) made the most of nine hits and held the Twins (1-5) to just five hits in handing last place Burlington its fourth straight loss.

Deska allowed just three runs - two earned - on five hits over his seven innings, striking out five and walking three. Brandon Horigan retired all six batters he faced to finish up. Toronto's pitching duo got plenty of run support, as the Leafs scored two runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to account for most of their offence. Richards had two hits, scored twice and drove in two more while Gibbons had a two-run single in the fourth and walked three times. Tyler Fata also had two hits for Toronto and scored a run, while Glenn Jackson scored twice and had a hit and a walk. Matthew St. Kitts went five innings and took the loss for the Twins. He allowed seven runs - just four earned - on eight hits with seven walks and three strikeouts. Three relievers finished up for the Twins, who were hurt by nine walks and four errors.

Aberdeen Chan had two hits and drove in two runs for the Twins, who slipped into last place in the nine-team league with the loss. Peter Bako's RBI single in the fifth accounted for Burlington's other run.

Ottawa Fat Cats 7; Kitchener Panthers 0

In Ottawa, Fat Cats starter Brandon Huffman allowed just four hits over seven plus innings, while the visiting Kitchener Panthers committed a whopping seven errors, as the home team cruised to a 7-0 win over Panthers at Ottawa Stadium.

Huffman went 7 1/3 innings and notched an impressive ten strikeouts and just one walk to claim the win for the Fat Cats. Brett Sabourin closed things out, walking two and striking out one over the final 1 2/3 innings of play to give Ottawa its second win of the IBL season (2-3).

Jason Coker and Eitan Maoz both registered a pair of hits, two RBI and a run scored in the win, while Joe Stone also chipped in with a pair of hits and a run scored. Wade Wilson had a hit and an RBI while LaDale Hayes had a hit and a run scored in the win.

Panthers starter Matt McGillvray was handed the loss, tossing the opening six inning and giving up four hits and two runs with one walk and five strikeouts.

Jeff Pietraszko was 2-for-3 for the Panthers (2-1), who suffered their first loss of the season. Mat Taube and Luke Baker had the other two Kitchener hits on the evening.
