Barrie 5 Guelph 2
Barrie's Brodie Harkness came into the game in the first inning in relief and allowed only one run over 5 2/3 innings to earn the win for the Baycats as they took down the Guelph Royals 5-2. Harkness struck out three and scattered three hits while throwing 42 of his 68 pitches for strikes. Barrie's bullpen stifled the Royal's bats the final three innings allowing only one more run and Josh Soffer recorded the save.
Joseph Fincher took the loss for Guelph. Fincher went six innings and despite not walking any batters gave up five runs on nine hits while striking out two.
Barrie catcher Brendan Keys led both teams with three hits and scored a run. His teammates Kyle DeGrace and Jeff Cowan had two hits apiece. Guelph struggled at the plate collecting only six hits all night.
The Baycats, now 22-4, next see action Monday night when they host the Kitchener Panthers. Guelph, falling to 15-12 on the year, hosts the Brantford Red Sox Saturday evening.
Kitchener 9 London 6
Sean Reilly continues his monster season for the Kitchener Panthers and had a huge night at the plate Thursday. Reilly smashed his league leading 11th and 12th home runs of the year. He also drove in four runs and scored three times. His big night help power the Panthers to a 9-6 win over London. Reilly now sits atop the IBL in home runs, stands second in RBI with 31 and fourth in batting average with .380.
Mike Gatchene earned the win in relief as the Panthers overcame a three run deficit after two innings. David Whitesite did double duty yet again recording the save and rapping out three hits while playing third base and shortstop before pitching. Jordan Kavinsky took the loss for London giving up four runs on two walks and two hits in one third of an inning. A solid start from London's Carlos Martinez was wasted after he struck out nine batters through six innings.
Chris Dennis, Bryon Reichstein and Cody Mombourquette each hit home runs for the Majors but it was not enough to hold off Kitchener on this night. The 14-13 Panthers and the 16-12 Majors face off again Friday evening in London.
Brantford 19 Burlington 3
The Brantford Red Sox smashed 21 hits and scored 19 runs Thursday night as they beat up on the Burlington Bandits pitching staff 19-3. Four Red Sox hitters had at least three hits and Ben Bostick collected five hits in six at-bats, scoring three times and driving in another two. Terrell Alliman had four hits and scored twice and Jeff Hunt drove in five runs and scored three times. Leadoff hitter Brandon Dailey scored four times in the game
Andrew Vant Wout took the win for the Red Sox and cruised having been staked to 7-0 lead after three innings. Vant Wout went 6 2/3 innings giving up only two runs and striking out a pair. Rich Corrente took the loss for the Bandits and lasted only 2 2/3 innings. He gave up nine hits and two walks resulting in seven runs. Corrente was not the only culprit as the Bandits relief effort allowed a further 12 runs on 12 hits and 11 walks after he had left the game.
Surprisingly the lone home run the in the high-scoring game was hit by Burlington's David Marcus, his first of the season.
The Bandits, 4-19, and the Red Sox, 12-14, face each other again Friday evening in Brantford.
