Red Sox stay unbeaten while Leafs rout Royals
Jamie Richmond pitched six shutout innings and Scott Thorman had three hits and drove in a run to lead the Brantford Red Sox to their fourth straight victory, a 6-0 win over the Burlington Bandits, in one of two games played in the Intercounty Baseball League Wednesday night.
The five-time defending champion Red Sox are 4-0 to start the season after making the most of their eight hits while the Bandits slipped to 1-1, also managing eight hits in the game.
Richmond allowed just three hits over his six innings, striking out eight and walking one, before three relievers finished up the eight-hitter. Stefan Strecker pitched the ninth for the Red Sox, leaving him just one appearance away from tying Doug Landreth for the most career appearances in IBL history. It was Strecker's 197th game as a pitcher.
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when Joe Colameco forced a bases-loaded walk that drove in what turned out to be the game-winning run. Brantford added a single run in the sixth and broke open the game with three more runs in the seventh.
Colameco drove in a pair of runs for the winners and walked three times, while Lee Delfino added two hits and an RBI. Josh McCurdy scored twice and had a hit as well for Brantford.
Luke Melymick was the starter and loser for the Bandits. He allowed one run on two hits with one strikeout and four walks over four innings.
Sean Malony and Peter Bako had two hits each for the Bandits.
