IBL Announces Expansion Team in Vancouver British Columbia

Published on September 6, 2007 under International Basketball League (IBL) News Release

Vancouver, BC-The International Basketball League is excited to announce that a team from Vancouver, British Columbia will join the league for the 2009 season. The team will be owned by Vancouver resident Jonathan Mara. Mara has been a member of the Basketball BC Board of Directors for the past four years and Assistant Coach of the White Rock Christian Warriors senior boys' high school basketball team for the past five years.

"Vancouver has gone long enough without professional basketball since the loss of the Grizzlies and during that same time period there has been a dramatic increase in participation in youth, high school, college and university basketball" said Mara, "The IBL will be a natural extension of the basketball growth British Columbia has experienced over the past five years."

Mara believes the people of Vancouver will embrace the IBL and its up-tempo style that it is known for-"[The IBL] was a natural choice for the great entertainment value for fans that the game's quick paced action produces."

The yet-to-be-named Vancouver team will not participate in the upcoming 2008 season but will instead focus on building a strong community base before launching full-time in 2009. Information regarding team name, venue and player roster will be announced at a later date.
