
IBL Adds Expansion Team in Edmonton, Alberta
October 23, 2007 - International Basketball League (IBL) News Release
Portland, OR-The International Basketball League is excited to announce that a team from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada will join the league for the upcoming 2008 season. The team will be owned by local Edmonton business group SMG Pro Hoops Ltd and will be named the Edmonton Chill. The Chill will play their home games at the Sports & Wellness Center at Grant MacEwan.
Paul Sir, Head Coach and Director of Basketball Operations-"We are proud to bring the Chill to the city of champions. It provides a fast pace with the league average being 127 points per game per team. We want the basketball fan young and old to come out and have a great time."
The Edmonton Chill Vice President, Michael Tratch believes the people of Edmonton will embrace the IBL and its up-tempo style that (the IBL) is known for-"The IBL was a natural choice for [its] great entertainment value for fans"-stated Tratch.
The Chill have already begun signing sponsorship deals including Edmonton Web Pages, Cameron's Meat, Dynateam Realty, Basketball Alberta, 7-11, Yukon Brewery, Alaska Airlines/Horizon Airlines, Saleient, Grant MacEwan College, Rose & Crown Pub and Sherlock Holmes Pub.
A press conference will be scheduled within the next few weeks to announce team management, logo and colors. IBL Commissioner Mikal Duilio will be present.
The Edmonton Chill's office will be located at #200, 7915 104 Street, Edmonton, Alberta.
