Iowa Cubs News Release

Des Moines, IA - Minor League Baseball has chosen Iowa Cubs broadcaster Randy Wehofer to be the Master of Ceremonies for the Opening Session and the Awards Luncheon at the Baseball Winter Meetings in Las Vegas on Monday. This will be Wehofer's second time hosting these events, but his first as a representative of the I-Cubs. He also filled this role at the 2006 Baseball Winter Meetings in Orlando.

Wehofer will call the Winter Meetings to order in the Opening Session, which is the official beginning of the four-day event. The Opening Session will feature addresses from the officers of Minor League Baseball and Wehofer will introduce each league's Executive of the Year, including I-Cubs President and General Manager Sam Bernabe who won the award for the Pacific Coast League. The Awards Luncheon is attended by over 1,000 people from both the minor and major leagues and includes the presentation of the Rawlings Woman Executive of the Year, Scout of the Year, and the Baseball America Organization of the Year among others.

Wehofer joined the I-Cubs in February and partnered with Deene Ehlis on the I-Cubs broadcast team after spending nine years with the Burlington (IA) Bees of the Midwest League. During that time, he was also part of seven broadcasts with the Kansas City Royals and has twice been a speaker at both the Bob Freitas Seminar at the winter meetings and the minor league promotional seminar. In 2007, he was cast in the part of radio broadcaster "Jack Jeffries" in the baseball movie Sugar that was filmed in Iowa and is due out in theatres in April of next year.
