January 10, 2014 - Southern League (SL1)
Huntsville Stars News Release
The Southern League announced today that they have approved the sale of the Huntsville Stars. The franchise is being sold by a group led by Miles Prentice to a group led by Ken Young. The sale must also be approved by both Minor League Baseball and Major League Baseball to be final. The Huntsville Stars had recently received approval from all parties to relocate the franchise to Biloxi, MS, starting with the 2015 season.
Ken Young stated, "We are eager to get involved and I am especially pleased that Miles Prentice will continue with this new venture." Miles Prentice added, "I am excited to be part of the new ownership group with this franchise and look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship."
The Huntsville Stars will continue to play at Joe W. Davis Stadium for the 2014 season. "Leaving Huntsville at the end of the 2014 season will be bittersweet for our league due to our long association with former Stars' owner and beloved former Southern League President, Don Mincher. But, as sad as we are to be leaving the Huntsville market, we are also excited as we look forward to opening a new ballpark in Biloxi and bringing professional baseball to that community," League President Lori Webb stated. She also wished to express her thanks to the Huntsville community and fans for their many years of support and encourages the fans to enjoy a few more games this summer at "The Joe", currently the oldest stadium in the Southern League.
