Howie Departs for Metro Jets
by Ken Oda
Minot, ND - The Minot Minotauros are proud to announce that Assistant Coach Jake Howie has accepted the position of Associate Head Coach of the USPHL's Metro Jets for the 2022-23 season.
"I'm extremely excited to get the opportunity to head back home and join a storied program in the Metro Jets. I'm excited to help kids continue to develop not only on the ice but as human beings off the ice as well," said Howie.
Howie just finished his first season behind the bench after finishing his playing career. Howie not only coached the Tauros but played two seasons in cream and cardinal posting 51 points in 103 games from 2013-2015. After spending three seasons in Minot the Magic City will always hold a special meaning for Howie.
"I want to thank the entire Tauros organization for helping me get my coaching career started! The Tauros organization from the top with Brad Porter all the way down are a top notch organization, that is though to match anywhere in junior hockey. Also I'd like to thank both Cody Campbell and Shane Wagner for the development as a hockey coach this year and opportunity to work alongside and learn everyday from two great coaches. Finally I want to thank the fans and people of Minot for welcoming me back with open arms. From the moment I stepped foot in the Magic City as a 19 year old player and the Tauro faithful have been nothing but first class. I will always consider Minot one of my homes.
Tauros Head Coach Cody and General Manager Cody Campbell praised Howie's legacy in Minot as well as his future in the game, "We are happy for Jake and wish him well in his new position. Jake's time here as a player was expanded on this past season as a coach and we thank him for all of his work and his commitment to our players and the Minotauros organization. He will be an extremely valuable asset to the Jets and MJDP."
With the Tauros season over the search for Howie's replacement begins immediately, though not entirely from square one as Campbell was already vetting candidates to replace Assistant Coach and Director of Scouting Darren Banks who departed to become the Head Coach of the NA3HL's New Mexico Ice Wolves. Stay tuned to gotauros.com and the Tauros socials for updates on the Tauros coaching staff and all other news through the off-season.
