February 14, 2015 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release
The Rochester Knighthawks used a 6-0 run in the second half to defeat the Buffalo Bandits 15-10 tonight at the First Niagara Center. What makes the victory even sweeter - on Valentine's Day - is that Rochester improves to 2-0 against their I-90 rivals this season.
Rochester was led by a balanced offensive effort and a 45-save effort from goalie Matt Vinc. The Knighthawks improved to 3-3 by outscoring Buffalo 8-2 in the second half, which included a 5-0 fourth quarter.
Joe Walters scored the game-winner at 10:16 of the third as he picked up a rebound and beat Anthony Cosmo to give the Knighthawks an 11-10 lead. He added his third of the night when his shoot ricocheted off the back boards, hit Cosmo's back and banked into the net for a 13-10 advantage. The goals were part of a 5-0 run, which included two goals from Jordan Hall (3+2), Dan Dawson (2+6) and Craig Point (4+1). Point tied his career high for goals in a game with the effort, while Cody Jamieson dished out a career-high nine assists.
The Knighthawks opened the game with a 3-2 lead after the first quarter, which was fueled by a successful challenge by Head Coach Mike Hasen. Dawson's diving goal was ruled good, giving the Knighthawks the lead with just 19 seconds to play in the opening frame. Rochester and Buffalo battled back and forth in the second quarter with Rochester scoring late goals by Stephen Keogh and Point to cut the deficit to 8-7. Keogh's goal was his first of the season and first of three on the night. Point's outside rocket came with just 55 seconds to play in the half and was the second of four Rochester power-play goals tonight.
Keogh and Point also strung together goals in the third quarter to tie the contest at nine. Hall then scored a diving goal at 8:13 to even the contest at 10. It was all Rochester from there as Vinc stoned Ryan Benesch on the doorstep five minutes into the fourth to set the tone.
The Knighthawks will close out their two-game stretch in New England against the Black Wolves on Sunday, February 15th. Fans can catch the contest online on TSN.ca in Canada and on ESPN via WatchESPN (espn.com) in the US. The radio broadcast will be available on 105.5 The Team and online at theteam.fm.
