Hounds Add Depth in Gord Burnett

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown SteelHounds of the Central Hockey League announced today that Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kaminski has signed defenseman Gord Burnett for the 2007-08 season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Burnett, 26 comes to Youngstown after spending his rookie season with the ECHL Utah Grizzlies where he compiled nine assists, 189 penalty minutes and a +5 in 50 games. The native or Regina, Saskatchewan will once again team with Joel Irving who was signed by the Hounds on August 17th.

The 6-1, 200-pound defenseman played four years at Division III College of St. Scholastica (Minnesota) where in 104 games he accumulated 12 goals, 24 assists and 277 penalty minutes for the Saints.

Head Coach Kevin Kaminski likes the balance that Burnett gives his defense saying, "Gord is a solid stay at home defenseman and is a great penalty killer." Kaminski went onto say, "He brings a great work ethic and character to our locker room. He is an in your face type of player who doesn't back down from anybody."

Burnett joins Kurtis Dulle and Denis Kirstein as new defensemen for this SteelHounds squad which will begin training camp on October 8th.
