Atlanta Beat News Release

Kennesaw, GA (April 9, 2011) - The Atlanta Beat open their second season in Women's Professional Soccer on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at KSU Soccer Stadium when they face the Boston Breakers in Atlanta's first of three back-to-back home matches.

Returning from the 2010 roster are defender/forward Lauren Sesselmann and midfielder Lori Chalupny. Chalupny will captain this year's team as a figure who leads by example and who controls the pace of midfield. She finished a couple multi-goal games, scoring two against Florida on Sunday, March 27 and two against the University of Georgia on Tuesday, March 29. In total, Chalupny has scored six goals in eight preseason games.

The Beat's roster also includes familiar names like Heather Mitts, Carli Lloyd, Cat Whitehill. Keeley Dowling, and India Trotter who are joined by the young talents of Megan Jesolva, Kristina Larsen, Katherine Reynolds, Kylie Wright and Vendula Strnadova.

The Beat went undefeated in preseason, giving up only one goal over the course of eight matches with shutouts in all home contests. The Breakers come into Atlanta leading the all-time series 2-1 between these two clubs.

The Beat will also honor players of the original Beat which competed in the Women's United Soccer Association from 2001-2003. The former Beat players will participate in a pre-game ceremony.
